    The Grand Coulee Dam is a gravity dam that has been built on the Columbia River. It is located in the state of Washington. The was built between 1933 to 1942, originally having two powerhouses, with a third being added in 1974. It is the actually the largest power station in the United States by nameplate-capacity.

    The purposes for the construction of the dam were to produce lot of electricity, as well as for using for irrigation of the farmlands in Washington, and so far the dam has been doing both of those tasks perfectly well.
