It is "Sauer's "site" is another word for the physical environment. The site is the land and the environment humans settle in. Venice is located on a series of small islands. It became an early center for trade and commerce because of the number of navigable waterways in the city. Venetian culture is still centered around these waterways. Homes sit directly next to the water, and citizens use boats and bridges to travel around the city."
