By which mechanism does older oceanic rock move at a ridge?

    The ridge is a subduction zone. The oceanic plate usually sub ducts below the continental plate. Old crust is consumed at convergent boundaries while new crust is formed at divergent boundaries by uprising magma from the mantle. This movement of plates is powered by convection currents of the mantle.
