The only thing I can think of is that they are both relatively detached from the rest of the world. They both rely a lot on their own resources. Isolationist to a certain degree.

Austria and Switzerland are two nations of Central Europe nestled over the Alps, which share a common border and a history that includes them both, being therefore two countries with many similarities.

Both nations have approximately 9 million inhabitants each, with Switzerland having about 40 thousand square kilometers, while Austria doubles its territory. In both countries German is spoken, although in Switzerland French, Italian and Romansh are also spoken (to a lesser extent).

The GDP per capita of both countries are among the highest in the world, with Austria being $ 51,000 and Switzerland being $ 61,000, being the 17th and 9th country in the world with the highest GDP per capita respectively.

In addition, both countries stand out for their quality of life: the Human Development Index of Austria is 0.908 while that of Switzerland is 0.946 (positions number 20 and 2 in the ranking, respectively). This makes both countries part of the group of most developed countries in the world.
