Tectonic activity is the movement of the plates that collectively form the crust of the earth so technically it occurs over the entire face of the earth.
Where this movement affects people is usually at the edges of the plates where they grind against one another, or slip under one another This creates tremendous heat and pressure, which, in turn causes volcanic activity, earthquakes.
