Rome and Carthage had been experiencing serious tension, but nothing was serious until the three wars that so many losses and tragedy had happened. The reason for the Punic Wars was competing interests and Romans expansion, which was eyeing Sicily, which had territory in Carthage. However, the Romans were able to capture Carthage, even though Carthage was initially dominant and had great marine power.
