    C. Portugal had established a colony in Brazil in the past. In other words, while much of the remainder of Latin America was conquered by the Spaniards, Brazil was conquered by the Portuguese. Portugal was also a colonial power, while not as strong a one as Spain, it also developed colonies in Africa.
