In what year did the Baltic Republics break away from the Soviet Union and become independent?

    When the Soviet Union broke up in 1990-91 the three Baltic sisters: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania declared their independence, Lithuania was actually the first to declare independence in 1990 and the other Baltic nations followed, however the Soviet Union did not recognize their independence until 1991.
