What is Gerrymandering? Why would a political party take part in this practice?

    People vote for their representatives based on the district that they live in. For example, for big cities like San Diego, there will be multiple districts that elect representatives. Naturally, some of these districts will have people who support one party more than the other. Gerrymandering is the process by which these districts are divided based on borders that favor a political party.

    Gerrymandering involves drawing bizarrely shaped districts in order to create a favorable proportion of voters supporting your party. A political party would want to take part in it in order to try to win as many districts as possible.
