American president Wilson Woodrow dreamt up an idea for world peace after world war I came to an end. His idea was to create an international body whose sole purpose was to maintain world peace and which would sort out international disputes as and when they occur.
He thought of this idea because he was really horrified by the slaughter that had taken place in what was meant to be a civilized part of the world. This idea resulted in the formation of the League of Nations.
Interesting enough, support for the idea was great except in America, whose own president had come up with it. This was due to the isolationism that was taking root in that Nation.
America refused to join the League of Nations.
