    The nationalism movement was captured by a new wave of dictatorial leadership that led to numerous coups, instability and increased poverty of the populace.

    only a few nations escaped coups and totalitarian regimes. The countries internal politics were rocked by rampant corruption, impunity and oppressive practices.
