The Greek gods are those that the Greeks, in the era before Christ or B. C., believed to have ruled the world and caused all the unexplained phenomena around them. For example, the explain the rising and setting of the sun, the Greeks believed that the god Apollo rode a sun chariot across the sky all throughout the day which explained why the sun traveled from the east to the west. They believed that the sun god caused this phenomenon and worshiped him as such. Each god or goddess had their own set of worshipers, beliefs, temples, etc. Each city-state in Greece believed in a different god or goddess. For example, the city-state of Sparta which was mainly war-driven or centered considered Ares, the god of war, as the most important god.
