What was harlem renaissance and why was it significant

The Harlem Renaissance was a period of time in the 1930s in Harlem, New York City, wherein there was an explosion of vibrant black artwork, especially in the realms of music and poetry--which was incredibly important since it brought a relative amount of respect to the black community.
