    The ancient city named Harappa was named after a modern village located near there. The Harappa site was the first of several cities to be excavated of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, dating back to the Bronze Age. The site is located in modern Pakistan. At the time of the discovery, it was in the British controlled territory of India.
