The Mayflower compact was considered a social contract, which greatly influenced the development of democracy as the founding fathers created a similar contract: the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation holds a contract to the people that their are certain parliaments that hold representatives for them, in other words a democracy. But as we soon find out this social contract was inefficient and failed, thus leading to the Great Compromise and the United States Constitution. Long story short, The Mayflower Compact set an example for the United States of America of keeping a social agreement between their people.
