    They were supposed to meet the French Foreign Minister, Charles Maurice de Telleyrand, instead he sent three agents Jean-Conrad Hottinguer, Pierre Bellamy and Lucien Hauteval to negotiate a bribe of 50,000 pounds and a loan to the French government before negotiations could begin.
