Given what you've learned about the legacy of colonialism in Algeria, what do you think accounts for the score it has received in recent years on government stability and the absence of violence?

    Algeria was probably the bloodiest place on earth 20 years ago. The civil war there was horrible. It was ruthless and went on and on and on - surprising everybody that it ever even stopped. That attributes to high marks for non-violence in Algeria.
