Why did the bubonic plague most likely first occur in europe in port towns in italy and france?

    The rats on the import ships contained fleas that contained the bacteria.

    However due to lack of medical and general knowledge it caused Chaos in Europe as people were dying and they thought various religious and ethnic groups caused the disease
