What were dragons used fir in ancient chinese culture? and why?

Dragons were used for their symbol of great power.

Chinese Dragon, though mythological, was a symbol of great power--both the powers of nature and the powers of the Emperor--in China for most of its history.

As for why? I have no idea but I do know what they were used for in ancient Chinese culture, they were used mainly for symbolism (as said as above)
