Washington was worried about fighting within the government. What does he use to describe that fighting?

    He was afraid that after him, the people would create parties and start chasing their own benefit which is why he urged them not to do so. Of course, they didn't listen and they created parties that often fought just to beat the other one, instead of looking at what's the best for the country. He addressed this issue in his speeches when he was ending his presidency.
