The Scopes trial ended the debate over the teaching of evolution. However, it did represent a significant setback for the anti-evolution forces.

During that time, it is a trend within the states in america to start teaching the evolution theory from Darwin.

Up to the 1920s, there are still 15 states that endorse anti-evolution legislation, but only Arkansas and Mississippi that directly preventing the theory from being taught in classes.

The trial of John Scopes was popular becuase he dare to teach evolution in the states that prevent its teaching. In the end, Scopes was required to pay some fines to the court but the verdict was thrown out on a technicality regarding an appeal.
