Why did many in the south view the 1860 election of Abraham Lincoln as such a disaster? They were able to vote for him (A is wrong). And he didn't steal any Southern votes--everyone hated him in the South! (C is wrong)

And why? They thought he was an abolitionist who wanted to end slavery. This would threaten their economy and way of life! But he was willing to let slavery be to keep the peace, even though he didn't like it. B is correct!

By the way, the Confederacy was formed after the election and he didn't want ANY of the states to join it! D is incorrect.
