Life changed drastically for both blacks and whites in the South after the Civil War. Since the North won, the South had to comply with its rules as a loser. For example, slavery was banned, which obviously meant good things for blacks, as they were now virtually free. This made their life so much easier. Whites lost their workers so now they had to work themselves. However, the South was pretty much destroyed after the Civil War, which meant that everybody had to rebuild it in order to make it function again.
