How did the allies finally lessen the threat of the German ships? The allies had their own ships and no longer needed to buy ships from the Germans. The allies ignored the German ships thinking that if they were ignored the German ships would return home and no longer present a danger. The allies used convoys to escort merchant ships and minefields to stop ships heading to the North Atlantic. all of the above
