Copernicus was the one who demonstrated that the earth and the other planets revolve around the sun. This is what you call as Heliocentric discovery. This happened because people believed that it is the Earth who is the center of the solar system.

At first, Copernicus had a heliocentric, or sun-centered galaxy, model as a theory, but he wasn't widely accepted. Galileo used a telescope to expand on that idea and prove it to be correct.
