How did the domino theory apply to southeast asia

The domino theory claimed that if Vietnam fell to communist rule, then all the other countries in the region like Cambodia, Laos, or others, would also fall to communists. That's why the United States believed that it was necessary to stop the Communists in Vietnam to prevent them from making the entire region a communist one.
