Some colonies were dependent on other colonies for shipping their products. There are a few reasons for this. The southern colonies concentrated on farming. They grew lots of crops as well as cotton. Their soil was fertile, and the climate was suited for growing cotton. The New England colonies did much less farming. Their soil was poor, and the climate wasn’t suited for farming. They concentrated on manufacturing and trade.
