The purpose of the nineteenth amendment was to give women the right to vote.
Women wanted the same rights as men which had started the women's suffrage movement so with the nineteenth amendment out in place it allowed women to vote and prohibits United States citizen to be denied the right to vote because of gender.

Nineteenth Amendment summary: The Nineteenth (19th) Amendment to the United States Constitution granted women the right to vote, prohibiting any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920 after a long struggle known as the women's suffrage movement.
