Who were coloni? In the later Roman empire, they were veteran soldiers sent to form colonies? In the feudal contract, they were the people who administered the landlord's properties? People who swore an oath of loyalty to a nobleman, in return for a fief, or grant of land? In the later Roman empire, they were poor farmers who were legally bound to the land and were transferred with the land to its new owners?
