Fascism was attractive because it promoted the growth of one's country and appealed to their nationalist pride. Particularly in Germany and Italy, both former great militaristic states, it appealed to the establishment of a new Reich or a next great (Roman) Empire. It also went against the harsh war reparations placed upon Germany in the Treaty of Versailles after WW1.
