What revolutionary changes in transportation might have compelled allowing elected candidates to take office two months sooner?

    It is mostly engine powered vehicles. People who became presidents had to travel to Washington in carriages which were horse drawn and took a lot of time. When trains and cars got developed they could get there easily and didn't have to worry anymore about the hardships of traveling.
