Which states took the lead in granting women the right to vote prior to the passage of the nineteenth amendment?

    Western states did that.

    Prior to the passage of the Nineteenth amendment, which granted women the right to vote, Western states had already done that before. Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, etc. gave women their equal rights before the 19th Amendment was passed in 1920.
