3. Discuss the role of opium as a commodity in Chinese society during the 1700's and identify who were involved in the opium wars and what impact it had on the relationship between Western Europe and China.

    Opium was very important and a lot of money was involved because it was a drug that was commonly used by people who wanted to be addicts or relax or things like that. The Brits wanted to legalize the trade of it and after the wars, China had to open up to trading with western powers because it was weakened, so it couldn't protect itself from foreign influences.
