What reasons does lincoln give for hating the principle of popular sovereignty, which permits slavery wherever men can be found inclined to take it?

    He claims that what was happening was unjust and uncivil and that it made America look hypocritical in the eyes of its allies and enemies and that it is based on pure self interest and without any respect for civil liberties. He urged them to do the right thing because of this but it never happened.
