The federalist party ended with the War of 1812. When this war was over, the party fell apart. Many federalists were opposed to the war, because it impeded trade and this was how they earned a living. When the war ended and the Treaty of Ghent was signed, the federalists were viewed as traitors by a lot of Americans. Thus, the party lost favor and fell apart.
