What can be said about the slave trade?

I think the slave trade was used to find cheap labour to in the US especially pick cotton and enrich the cotton landowners and it was an inhuman practice which treated the black people like animals and robbed them of their basic human rights to freedom of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
