Why did the Haitian Revolution occur?

I know this was one of the most successful slave rebellions that ended french control and slavery, but what triggered this event to happen?

The revolution was influenced by the French Revolution of 1789, which would come to represent a new concept of human rights, universal citizenship, and participation in government. Slaves initiated the rebellion in 1791.
