What environmental factors influence development of new england colonies?

    The New England colonies had poor quality land so they couldn't grow crops, but they had dense forests could focus on lumbering and ship building. This in turn meant that they could develop the fishing and whaling industry, which was used to trade with other colonies for food like corn of wheat or similar things.
