    Just like the U. S. Presidential Election of 1992, 1996 showed a three way race with Democrat Bill Clinton running for re-election against Republican Bob Dole and Independent Ross Perot. At first Clinton had difficulty for failing to live up to some of his promises such as cutting taxes to lower the deficit, banning assault rifles etc. The economy recovered and this enabled Clinton to win the election.
