The British and French decided not to act upon Germany breaking the Treaty of Versailles. They decided to use another 'tactic' called "appeasement." They decided to make sure that the Germans were always satisfied, so that they wouldn't risk any chance of war. This turned to be very stupid, because the Germans just took advantage of the appeasement, like how a kid takes advantage of a clueless parent.
