The war of 1812 was so expensive because the Americans needed spent all their money on weapons and supplies. The British didn't have to pay much money because they had the best army in the world during that time period.

I believe that it was due to buying so many cannons and supplies as well as the money britain had to pay at the end of the war but thta is just a guess
