Why did the US get involved in Vietnam?

the US signed a treaty with North Vietnam that required them to come to their defense when they were invaded

following the US foreign policy of containment and the domino theory

the Chinese invaded North Vietnam and the US was concerned that it violated North Vietnam's sovereignty
