Philip the Bold ordered the commission of the Cartreuse de Champmol to be a place for his family tombs. The Cartreuse de Champmol includes the Well of Moses, this symbolic fountain of life was originally used to support a Crucifixion group. It also features people from the Old Testament, mainly Moses. The figures appear as if they are stepping towards those who view it, they have realistic poses, and Moses is featured with horns which is meant to symbolize his inspiration and suffering.
