The 1968 U. S Presidential Election was a tumultuous one. There was Vietnam War, massive anti-war protests, and the assassination of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther, and assassination riots. In short, there was widespread disorder. Nixon ran a campaign promising restoration of law and order and making a new leadership to lead the Vietnam War. Nixon won by a small margin in terms of popular vote, and he failed miserably in Southern states.
