A good leader leads by example. Its not just a matter of principle. People are visual beings and learn through imitation. There’s nothing more inspiring than seeing great things achieved before your very eyes.

Alexander did great things often. He was always there with his troops, he fought with them, froze in the cold and cooked under the scorching sun with them.

That earned him a lot of loyalty. Alexander was despised by his peers because he made them look bad in comparison. There were many plots to assassinate him and take power. That’s why I think that his ultimate death wasn’t due to illness.
