What happened to Native Americans such as the Cherokees who opposed land allotment under the Dawes Act? They were forced by federal troops to accept assigned lands. They were relocated farther west to settle on new lands. They were allowed to hold land communally for a few more years. They were imprisoned until all the tribal land was allotted.
