Why did General Robert E. Lee's decide to attack general pope

    Because he was tired of the way he and his peo0e were getting treated

    Pope was already heavily involved in a fight against Confederate Major General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. The idea of Jackson was to keep Pope busy until reinforcements arrived from Lee who knew that if he attacked it would be an easy fight. It did happen that way in the end and Lee won.
