Why was the Battle of Yorktown such a devastating defeat for the British?

The British lost an entire army.

It led to French entry into the war.

It was their first defeat in years.

Casualties were enormously high.

    It was their first defeat in years. The British had the best Navy and Army in the World and got defeated by the unprepared and inexperienced Continental Army led by George Washington.
