    England was distracted, and the colonies were largely left to their own devices during the civil war in England. During the English civil war, England let the colonies alone for twenty years. England was consumed with and distracted by domestic matters. This gave the colonies some independence to form a new land, with new ideas, and emerging political philosophies.
