The armistice was signed at 5am on November 11, 1918, however it was an agreement to cease fighting at 11am of the same day. It was outlined that Germany was to surrender machine guns, aeroplane's, submarines, warships and to disassemble any ships not surrendered. Germany was to pay for war damages (estimated $35 billion in today's currency, paid in full in 2010 with a final payment of $98 million) and also required to name such acts of war like land mine locations and which lakes and rivers they polluted. If any of these provisions were not met our if Germany resumed fighting France would continue fighting within 48 hours.
